Bugs / Insects as Staple Food Source

Eating bug as food is not new to us or a new discovery. In fact its like an old news paper stored in a stock room a hundred years ago. If you are not eating bugs, perhaps you have seen someone eating them from television shows, magazine, newspapers and the internet.

Bugs / insects that can be eaten includes worms, house fly larvae, cicadas, crickets, locusts, ant eggs and beetles. Some people considered them as delicacy but some regard them as spoiled foods that are not fit for human consumption. The safety of these insects are unknown. Food regulatory authorities have not conducted studies about them yet.

Insects / bugs as food is not generally accepted world wide. They are still exotic. Let us forecast what are going to happen if those insects will be accepted as staple food source:

1) Regulatory agencies will start making studies about their safety. We will know which are safe to eat.
2) A commercial feed formulation for insects will be invented. Just like feed for dogs, cats, fish, shrimp, hogs, goats, horse, chicken, cows, sheeps and other domesticated animals.
3) A variety of medicines for insects will be invented as well as growth promotants.
4) Intelligent individuals will create a genetically modified cricket and the likes for bigger and better productions.

Some insects maybe safe for human consumption but the advent of technology can make them bring more harm.
