I got three raw avocados. I placed it on table. It will ripen after several days because it is a climacteric fruit.
After few hours, the three avocados were missing. I searched for it everywhere and found it on top of rice. I was not the one who placed it there and there was only one suspect. Perhaps she was really the criminal.
Why did she place the avocados inside rice bin? She said that doing so will hasten avocado ripening. I also asked for scientific explanations and she was not able to gave any.
Will this really hasten the ripening of avocado? Probably but the rice have no direct connection with it. Avocado is a climacteric fruit. It produces ethylene – a natural ripening agent. Placing the fruit inside close box will prevent escape of ethylene gas and it will increase over time. The more ethylene around the fruit, the faster the ripening will be.
