Vegetable Rejects in Demand!

Vegetable rejects command lower market price than regular and export quality. They are inferior in appearance and only few buyers want them. Rejects – small, bruised, with cuts or deformed.

The situation in public market was telling the otherwise. A jeepney with loads of vegetables arrived. A group of buyers came asking.” Do you have rejects?” Another delivery came. The group of buyer went to the newly arrived jeepney and asked the same question, ” Do you have rejects?”

Just when I thought rejects have lower market value, this group was always looking for rejects whenever a new delivery arrived. They wanted rejects so badly.

This group are the ready-to-cook veggie sellers. They are selling mix sliced vegetables like lumpiang gulay, pinakbet and ginisa. Rejects are as good as high quality when trimmed. They are making good profits by selling mixed veggies out of rejects.

  1. This is like selling dented or scratched furniture & appliances in USA. You get same quality, but with slight imperfection, at lower price. As long as you do not mind a little blemish, saves you money.
