Two Kitchens : The Main and the Dirty

How many kitchen do you have? Perhaps most of you have two. Why the hell you need two kitchen in your house? Perhaps you and your better-half are cooking foods separately and eating separately. Ohhh! Sorry for my violent reaction!

I have been observing every houses I have been too. I find it weird seeing two kitchens in a single house. What do I mean two. I walked in the salas then to kitchen. Then there is a small door going to another kitchen. Most often the second is not as pretty as the first. What is the purpose of the other kitchen. You gonna cook in the first kitchen and also cook in the other. Kitchen is for cooking purposes. Why have two if one is enough?

The two kitchens in house is a part of the Filipino traditions. It could also be a be a part of aesthetic. Most of us have two kitchens because we never want our main kitchen to be messy. In other words, we never use the main, we use the second instead. The main should stay clean so it is not embarrassing whenever a visitor arrived.

Another purpose. The dirty kitchen is use for large food preparations, like town fiesta, birthdays and weddings. The main kitchen area is not enough.

I tried googling the term “term dirty kitchen”. All pictures shown are real dirty. Full of mesh. Stains are spread all over. Unwashed kitchen utensils like plates, fork, spoon, knives etc… are not arranged properly. Flies and cockroaches and rodents are seen roaming around. Hmm… the “dirty kitchen ” might be a Filipino invention!
